In order to improve standards and facilities, a growing number restaurants in Iceland are now opting for the creation of dedicated children´s areas. One of these restaurants is Saffran, a subsidiary of Food Co and owners of large food chains in Iceland. For this project, our services were commissioned right from the beginning when the overall design of the restaurant was being conceived. Since Saffran draws its culinary roots from India, we devised an area that with a dedicated ethnic flavor. In order to fully engage children with food preparation we also built a pizza oven and created a game where children arrange food slices with the aid of magnets onto each pizza and ´cook´ them. Other features were created from drain pipes which were cut down before hand-made graphic illustrations, depicting fruit interiors, were arranged on each. Once assembled, the pipes could then be swiveled to arrange patterns in a cosmic fashion. In addition we devised small ´mushroom´ stools as well as child-sized versions of our wheeled stools from the Hnallur and Stallur Collection- these special editions feature rubber padded corners for that extra, child-friendly effect.
