CLIENT: Liggalá, Children´s Retail Shop
LOCATION: Laugarvegi, Reykjavík
PROJECT: Basement shop extension: Interior design and installation, including furniture
DATE: 2006
Liggalá, a retail shop selling children´s goods contacted us with plans for an expansion into the basement section. We shared a passion for creating an area that would not only carry merchandise, but also cater to parents and their children whilst shopping in the centre of Reykjavík. Although it was a new concept to Iceland the owners, having previously lived in Sweden, had come to know and cherish the idea.
Alongside the sales area for strollers and accessories, we created a ´play and relax´ zone in addition to coffee facilities and a nappy changing area. The ´soft pool´ (upholstered sponge design) was especially successful as a safe area designed to accommodate the youngest their clients. The concrete walls of the basement allowed us to extend our sculptural passions into Gaudiesque concrete and plaster ´shaped shelves´. Instead of ripping up the plastic parquet flooring we painted a mural featuring grass and rivers onto the entire surface. A slide between the floors proved to be very popular, as well as the small cave also created from a conctete/plaster mix.
