PROJECT: Design and construct a landscaped play area

Shortly after Eyrarskjól Playschool in the west-fjords adopted the Hjallastefnan ideology , they requested a re-design of their play area from a conventional playground to a landscaped area with natural play elements. A new slide and a previous free-standing hut were integrated within the new gras covered landscape. Although the Icelandic climate is unpredictable and winters often harsh, there is still a desire for outdoor teaching facilities and in order to meet this we constructed a wooden semi-circular seating area surrounded by a grassy mount. A new and improved sandpit was created from local drift wood, discarded timber and rocks.
Playfully our children develop and enrich their mind, body and spirit and it is our pleasure to support this in the creation of environments constructed from natural elements and inspired by nature.
Krukka grounds its ideas within the knowledge that Nature knows Best, hence the use of materials and arrangement of elements is always Organic. The value of quality play areas that enhance and support the development of children cannot be overstated
