CLIENT: H-O-H sf
LOCATION: Guesthouse 1×6, Keflavík, S-Iceland
PROJECT: The design, refurbishment and transformation of a home into a guesthouse.
DATE: 2010
This two-story family residence was converted into a guesthouse in a period of two months. The unusual name of this guesthouse refers to the measurements of the timber (in inches) used primarily to create the interiors. As an expression of the passion and joy for recycling, using reclaimed materials and reinvention, this particular guesthouse represents the first of its kind in Iceland. The recipe of utilizing old timber, disregarded tiles, furnishings and paint mixed with high quality mattresses, large-scale photography and home-baked bread, have created a unique and Trip Advisor award-winning experience.
Each decision based on these work ethics, created its own unique effect, from the hand-painted floor furnishings with tiles and rugs, created from giant cable drums.
As the clients came in, the guestbook became our best source of identifying what touched the heart and soul of the visitor and the feedback was striking:
´This guesthouse is so dream-like and full of imagination! We love it! The thermal pool is also sooo relaxing- we wish we could have stayed longer´– Saya and Laura from Finland
´This guesthouse is like a piece of jewelry in the heart of Keflavík….Many thanks for running and creating such an unexpected and special place´ Emmanuelle and Pierre – France
