Bollaróló- neighbourhood Playground

CLIENT:            The Neighbourhood Family Association

LOCATION:     Bollagata, Reykjavík

PROJECT:        The design and repurposing of a zone in a playground.

DATE:               2013

Increasingly, community groups approach us to guide them in the process of creative self sufficiency; to both encourage and meet the demands of the world that needs to develop and build up its own environment and to accomplish results based on individual desire. The location for this project was an existing playground in Reykjavík, which had become run down, redundant and unused by children.  Our aim was to revive the playground by constructing a new area out of logs and recycled materials to thoroughly engage the children.

The resulting play area, was constructed with the combined efforts of the local families in only one weekend.  Some of the key features of the design were knitted and crocheted elements by Tinna Þórudóttir Þorvaldar, which extend as a theme throughout the entire construction in a magical manner.  This undertaking was a singularly pro-active project which continues to effect the locals and moreover the playground policies of Reykjavík
