LOCATION: Harpan Concert Hall and Conference Centre, Reykjavík
PROJECT: Design and installation of visually dynamic art installations
DATE: 2014
The Brahma Kumaris set up a forum two years ago in Reykjavík, as a vehicle to explore the process of change within the individual and social institutions that enables transformation in not only a community but the world at large. For their second forum it was decided that a designer would be hired to embrace the overall concept/energy and translate it into a dynamic installation. The message this time was ´the power of love and compassion in governance-sharing actions for effective change´.
What resulted was a collaborative project with children of all ages within Hjallastefnan, an independent Icelandic heart conscious school system. The children were asked to create birds and fish that would make up a ´floating/flying´ installation in the lobby and conference hall.
SCHOOLS OF FISH AND FLOCKS OF BIRDS.
COLLECTIVE CONSCIOUSNESS – The ´awareness´ that fish and birds have of the collective in movement, speaks to us and can inspire the human potential to connect and transform as a community, emphasizing ´us´as opposed to ´I´. The many needs and desires of the INDIVIDUAL can and should be put aside in times of need to serve the FAMILY, COMMUNITY, COUNTRY and WORLD in order to swim or fly together towards a harmonious future. Just as the birds and fish connect despite their differences, we similarly are called upon to see beyond race, nationality, colour and age, when working towards the collective HUMANITARIAN consciousness.
