CLIENT: Spilavinir

Although they started small, Spilavinir are currently one of the largest retailers of board games and puzzles in Iceland. A truly active company who know the creative journey well. Our collaboration with them was exemplary of trust and unity between client and designer. The resulting design exhibits a concept that allows them space for continued expansion and the changes necessary for their on going creation.
Virtually all aspects of this interior design was created from re-used materials, combined in odd and humorous ways so as to raise the level of client amusement and interaction. Children and adult areas merge seamlessly within an atmosphere of game playing. The ground floor bookshop was added a year later where our design honoured the child in us all and, of course, the inspired book-worm!

The owners of Spilavinir, employed the design skills of Linda Mjöll and Daníel Hjörtur at the time of moving their premises from Langholtsvegur to the larger accommodation in Skeifan. This collaboration and the resulting construction was so joyful and energetic, that we obviously re-engaged their skills the following year as we expanded our premises into a bookshop in the basement.
Our wish was, that the shop itself by design, would engage and welcome the public. The atmosphere should immediately invite you to discover and experience a fairytale world where boardgames and players feel at home. This wish was most definitely fulfilled.
The construction all went according to plan and existing materials were integrated into the new design. The owners, Linda and Svanhildur discussed their vision in detail with the designers and what followed was a collaborative construction period. The designs reflected inherent Spilavina values and because of this synchronized ´rhythm´ the project seemed less like work but rather a joy driven creative experience, in good company!
We are looking forward to seeing what brilliance Linda Mjöll and Daníel will come up with in the next stage of planning which will include the coffee shop.
