CLIENTS: Kadeco
LOCATION: Ásbrú, Reykjanesbær
PROJECT: The re-conseptualising, designing and construction of the Ásbrú Carnival
DATE: 2015
This carnival, positioned on the previous American Army Base in Reykjanesbæ, is a follow-on from an event held by the army when they were based in Iceland and represented their desire for a open door policy towards the local community. In the years following their departure, Ásbrú has grown into a thriving educational university area, focusing primarily on the sciences, hence it was decided to highlight this energy within the event and rename it The Science Carnival.
The governing bodies, Kadeco hired us to re-shape the booths, stages and other elements into a re-cycled, more adventurous environment, with the new focus being science fair. One of Iceland´s leading children´s entertainer, Ævar the Scientist became the focal point and his ´house´ the centre of hands-on scientific experiments.
Construction materials were largely sourced from local construction yards, where scaffolding, plumbing materials and other elements were borrowed to act as building blocks for this new adventurous world.
