PROJECT: Design & Create Furniture for school interior
DATE: 2014
This independent school system in Iceland has become a prime example of a dynamic and inspired new approach to education. Our collaboration began in 2011 and they soon became one of our main clients. Each school has required something unique and our approach, always involves the children and parents/community as much as possible, with reference to both the idea and execution stage. The core aesthetic, within this context is grounded and free of unnecessary and excessive decoration. They support our recycling ethics and see the value and energy of natural materials in the context of healthy environments, especially for our children. The projects are on-going and evolve in harmony with the seasons.
For the Childrens School in Reykjavík, bench-dividers were created for each of the sub sections of the school and constructed using reclaimed scaffolding planks and designed in a way that created a playful, climbing sculpture. The children have since named them all, one of which is called ´the Ship´.
